The Fowler Smith and Jones Charitable Trust is a large grant making organisation based locally in Essex. They are particularly interested in funding church based projects, community projects based in Essex, and local social welfare projects. There is no guideline on the amount that can be applied for, but based on past awards to other organisations; a suggested amount to apply for would be between £2000 and £4000. In the first instance, approach Alex Mason to discuss your application, either by email on amason@tolhurstfisher.com or by telephone on 01245 216123. Following this initial contact, applications should be made in writing to:

The Anton Jurgens Charitable Trust has general grant making policies, but social welfare projects feature prominently in the grants that they award. They also favour projects based in the South East of England, which means that Essex based organisations will have a slight advantage. Applications are reviewed twice a year in June and October – it is therefore recommended to apply by 1st May and 1st September. The trust will make large grants or small grants, depending on the project.
Applications will need to be sent in writing, enclosing a letter outlining your charity, your project, how much money you need for the project, and how much of that you have raised. You will also need to enclose a copy of your constitution, your latest annual accounts, a budget for the project; a safeguarding policy if relevant and any other material that you think may be relevant. Applications should be sent to:
