Sports & Activity Clubs can now benefit from the activecastlepoint funding

The activecastlepoint partnership recently secured a grant of £31,000 from Sport England, part of which is to help local sports and physical activity clubs widen their services and attract new members.  Local groups and clubs now have the chance to benefit from the funding and are being invited to express an interest in the schemes which activecastlepoint plan to introduce.

£     Groups who would like to run a series of “Get Back Into” sessions could receive £600.  The aim of “Get Back Into” is to encourage adults to return to a sport they may have participated in during their youth.  Possible activities could include netball, cricket, hockey, football but the partnership will be considering applications from any club who can meet the necessary criteria.

£     Activity Fairs, designed to make potential participants aware of facilities and signpost them, are planned throughout the borough between now and September.  Clubs who take part could receive up to £150 for attending and offering a taster session or display.  The first Activity Fair is scheduled to take place on Sunday 22nd June as part of the Castle Point Show.

£     A voucher scheme, Active 4 Free, will be introduced to promote greater participation in sport and physical activity.  activecastlepoint will reimburse clubs who accept vouchers from potential new members for their first attendance up to the value of £4 per person.

If you are part of a sport or physical activity club and would like more information about activecastlepoint or to learn how your group could benefit from the funding please contact Adrian Matthews on 01268 882473.

Great Turnout for Community Breakfast

Tim Read speaking about recycling

The latest Castle Point Community Breakfast organised by CAVS saw the best ever attendance.  The public and representatives from community groups were invited to an informal meeting at Hadleigh Methodist Church where they could meet and chat over breakfast which was then followed by two speakers.

Over 50 local people came along to learn more about recycling from Castle Point Borough Council’s Recycling Officer, Tim Read.  He was followed by Tim Quinn, also from Castle Point Borough Council, who spoke about energy efficiency and Warmfront grants.

Holly Harrison from the British Red Cross described the meeting as “very informative and enjoyable”.  Similar thoughts came from Brenda Barton of St John Ambulance who said the meeting was “well organised” and urged CAVS to keep it up!

The event was arranged as part of the Stronger Communities work going on within Castle Point.  This partnership aims to ensure a greater number local people are better informed about new initiatives and local services.

Michaela White from CAVS said “It was fantastic to see so many people attend.  The meeting had a real buzz about it with lots of chatting and networking between people.  We got some great feedback and everyone is now looking forward to our June meeting.  Let’s just hope we can carry on encouraging even more people to join us.”

New NHS Website “for a healthier Essex”

THE NHS is launching a new website in south east Essex to give residents better advice on health services and healthy living. The South East Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT) website launches on 7 January 2008. It also provides information to help residents get involved in decisions over how the PCT’s money is spent and services are delivered.

Andrew Pike, the PCT’s Chief Executive, said: “We employ more than 800 staff and provide a wide range of health services for a third of a million people across Castle Point, Rochford and Southend-on-Sea. The new site is designed to give easy access to information about health and fitness, our services and also about how we spend our budget.

“It is vital people in south east Essex are involved in our decision making processes on how money is spent and our services are organised. The new website gives details about how patients and the public can be involved.”

The new website - www.see-pct.nhs.uk - was designed and written using feedback from patients and members of the public. It also has links to websites for other health organisations, including Southend Hospital, GPs and local health services.
