Community Information Event
On Saturday 30th January the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) held its annual event at the Paddocks on Canvey Island giving everyone the opportunity to find out more about the work taking place in the borough. The LSP includes dozens of local organisations working to improve the borough, including Castle Point Borough Council, the police, fire service, health bodies, voluntary groups and businesses.
Cllr Pam Challis, Council Leader and Chairman of the LSP said: “By working together we are able to achieve so much more for our community. The event is an opportunity for residents to find out what’s happening in the borough and to access advice and the many services available.”

Helen Robinson, Chief
Executive of Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services makes
the following statement: -
We confirm Natalie Walker was employed with CAVS from 11 May 2009
until 15 December 2009 when Natalie was dismissed. Natalie was
offered an opportunity to appeal through an independent and
impartial process but chose not to pursue this.
The reason for Natalie’s dismissal related to her involvement in
inappropriate activities outside of her employment. The view was
taken that they were not commensurate with her senior position
within the organisation which could have brought the reputation of
CAVS into disrepute. We do not seek to give any further details to
respect the confidence of former members of staff, however, the
recent account in the media does not reflect the full set of
circumstances in this matter.
However, we would wish to make it very clear that CAVS does allow
and actively encourages community activity with its 21 staff and 50
volunteers outside of CAVS employment or volunteering. Where the
outside activity may relate to their employment/volunteering which
may create a conflict of interest or criminal activities are
involved, we expect staff and volunteers to bring it to the
attention of management immediately.
CAVS has engaged the services of independent legal advice in
ensuring good employment practice is followed throughout this
incident and the Trustees stand firmly by their decision.
