Community Initiatives Fund (Youth)
Youth groups across Essex are being urged to apply for their share of a £2million bonanza.
The Community Initiatives Fund (Youth) builds on Essex County Council’s trailblazing Community Initiatives Fund which, in its first three rounds, granted £5million to 600 vital community projects across Essex. The youth fund is split between the county's 12 districts and boroughs, with £155,000 available in each area for youth projects in the financial year 2008/09, with any grant needing to be spent by 2010.
The money will be given to capital schemes only with a minimum grant of £15,000 set to help really worthwhile projects get off the ground. Applicants must provide strong evidence of consultation and involvement of young people in their application process.
First deadline for applications will be September 12 2008 and the second deadline for applications will be January 16 2009. Application forms and guidance notes are available on the website www.communityinitiativesfund.co.uk

Lottery Funding
Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out half the money for good causes raised by the National Lottery, giving them a budget of about £630 milliion a year. They are committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
Awards for All England is supported by the Arts Council England, the Big Lottery Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. They award grants of between £300 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) enables communities to celebrate, look after and learn more about our diverse heritage. They fund the entire spread of heritage – including buildings, museums, natural heritage and the heritage of cultural traditions and language.
Sport England advises, invests in and promotes community sport to create an active nation. We want to get two million people more active in sport by 2012. Sport England works hard to make England more active. We encourage people to get involved with sport and physical activity. We distribute funding and invest in a range of sporting projects, including the Active England fund.
Arts Council England works to get more art to more people in more places. We develop and promote the arts across England, acting as an independent body at arm’s length from government. Between 2006 and 2008, they will invest £1.1 billion of public money from government and the National Lottery in supporting the arts. This is the bedrock of support for the arts in England.
