Faiths in Action is a £4 million grants programme for faith, inter faith, voluntary and community sector organisations at national, regional and local levels in England.  Faiths in Action aims to bring faith communities together, promoting understanding, dialogue and partnerships.

Applying for a Faiths in Action grant: Faiths in Action funds both new and existing projects. They welcome those that support women and young people. You can also apply in partnership with another group or organisation if this helps your project.

In your application, you must show how your project relates to one or more of the fund’s four priorities:

A. Developing the confidence and skills to "bridge" and "link"
B. Supporting shared spaces for interaction and social action
C. Developing structures and processes which support dialogue and social action
D. Improving opportunities for learning which build understanding

There is no formal deadline for applications – Round 2 is a rolling programme. Applications will be accepted in the date and time order that they are received by CDF, until the total value of the eligible, relevant applications received equals the overall value of the fund.  Grants will be distributed from April 2010 and will fund activities that take place between April 2010 and March 2011.

Church Urban Fund is a not-for-profit organisation supporting social action in the most deprived areas of England. Through their work they support local groups dealing with the day-to-day effects of poverty where they live, working to make a real difference in the lives of those around them.

The Church Urban Fund has an annual grant-making budget of around £1 million. Grants are awarded to community groups offering all kinds of support to people living in England’s poorest communities. CUF particularly supports churches in deprived areas reaching out to serve their local community, but the Fund also welcomes applications from other faith groups. All applications need to be made via their network of local Link Officers.

This aims to provide grants of up to £5,000 to enable churches and faith-based organisations to engage in social action by supporting them to initiate or develop community work. This work will enable groups to undertake larger pieces of work or significantly improve the existing provision.

For more details on the criteria you need to fit, there is a guidance document available at http://www.cuf.org.uk/resources/5/Grant%20Information/Grants%20Manual%202010%20-%20applicants.pdf. If your project fits the criteria, the next port of call for your application is to contact the CUF’s local Link Officer.  You can identify who this is on this webpage: http://www.cuf.org.uk/diocesan_contacts.aspx . They will then provide you with an application form if they feel your project is appropriate to the fund.
